Sigma Publishing adds two AJN Awards at the end of 2018.

Sigma Publishing ended 2018 on a high note by bringing home two new American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Awards. The awards, both for second place, raise the total for Sigma Publishing to 39 AJN Book of the Year Awards.

“The American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year awards recognize some of the best books in nursing publishing, and Sigma is pleased to have two new recipients for 2018,” said publisher Dustin Sullivan. “Once again I would like to thank our outstanding authors as well as our top-notch editorial team that continues to punch above its weight by competing (and winning) against much larger publishers. Sigma Publishing’s high standards benefit Sigma members and nurses everywhere.”

The 2018 award-winning titles are:

Evidence-Based Practice in Action coverEvidence-Based Practice in Action: Comprehensive Strategies, Tools, and Tips From the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics was awarded second place in the Nursing Education/Continuing Education/Professional Development category.

Evidence-Based Practice in Action is a unique, application-oriented EBP resource of the latest Iowa Model Revised: Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Excellence in Health Care. This book offers a detailed plan to guide nurses and healthcare leaders in promoting EBP adoption and implementation.

AJN judge Donna M. Nickitas, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, CNE, FNAP, FAAN, notes: "Everything that is relevant to evidence-based practice can be identified, applied, and measured in this text. ... No matter how much knowledge the reader has about evidence-based practice, this book provides a comprehensive approach to tackling any clinical issue, problem, or project. ... This book will prepare nurse readers well to make clinical decisions and improve patient outcomes with ease and confidence."

Hospice & Palliative Care Handbook coverHospice & Palliative Care Handbook, Third Edition, was awarded second place in the Palliative Care and Hospice category.

Recently updated to its third edition, Hospice & Palliative Care Handbook offers concise, focused coverage of all aspects of hospice and palliative care for clinicians, managers, and other team members who provide important care while meeting difficult multilevel regulations.

"[Hospice & Palliative Care Handbook] packs a lot of content into less than 300 pages and summarizes information that would normally take a lot of time to look up in a busy setting," writes AJN judge Gracelyn Spears, MSN, FNP-BC. "I never once felt overwhelmed while reading it. This book would be ideal for the whole hospice team to read to help them understand their roles and become familiar with issues of quality and guidelines for care."
