The beauty of @Twitter and #SigmaConv19 is the opportunity to connect #IRL. That’s “In Real Life” for those unfamiliar with #hashtags.
Twitter is a microblog used to share professional and personal information—photos, notes of encouragement, and links to noteworthy resources and experts. Social media enhances the ability of #nurses to expand their networks to intentionally influence sectors within and outside the nursing profession.
Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) is a big proponent of Twitter because it helps our global community stay connected. It facilitates our ability to meet each other and remain connected between meetings—or hotel floors. An amazing strength of Sigma’s biennial conventions is the convening of a global network of thought leaders that allows us to meet our Twitter buddies #IRL!
It has been especially exciting to see conference presenters use Twitter effectively—before and during #SigmaConv19. For instance, @AnnemarieDowCas let her network know she was giving a #presentation by sharing the #title and #location. She shared her excitement for the talk and launched a Twitter #conversation even before delivering an #amazing presentation!
And Twitter allows all #nurses to come together as a powerful voice, regardless of speciality, level of preparation, or geography! One of our strengths is the ability to share varied expertise, storytelling, and lived experience to facilitate learning as well as relationship building—#NetworksOfNetworks—and events like #SigmaConv19 always result in increasing our Twitter impressions, engagements, and likes as #NursesWhoTweet from around the globe. Let’s #connect, #collaborate, and #catalyze to advance world health!
